A construction worker tragically died after being crushed by a collapsing wall during demolition activities in Soi Phahonyothin 32, Sena Nikom 1 Road in Bangkok.

The Ruamkatanyu Foundation’s volunteer unit responded to the incident yesterday, February 12, which involved an old concrete wall that was in the process of being dismantled.

The collapsed wall is part of an old structure scheduled for removal, and the circumstances surrounding the incident are still being evaluated by the team on-site, reported KhaoSod.

In similar news, a tragic accident at a municipal waste sorting centre in Nakhon Ratchasima claimed the life of a 20 year old worker when he fell into a rotating trash compactor.

Police Lieutenant Ketsadawut Meephon from Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima Police Station received the report at 4.30pm on February 10 and arrived at the waste management facility in Mueang district.

Rescue workers from Sawang Metta Korat were dispatched to retrieve the victim’s body, which was trapped in the machine’s spiral mechanism. His devastated relatives wept at the scene as responders worked carefully to extract him.

The victim, identified as Anuwat, had been employed at the facility for 11 months, responsible for sorting waste before it entered the incinerator system.

Reports suggest that he fell into the machine after returning from a break, with colleagues hearing a loud noise before discovering the accident. They immediately shut off the machine and alerted their supervisor. It is suspected that he slipped while checking the waste being processed.

The facility processes up to 230 tonnes of waste daily, operating in five key sections: preliminary sorting, anaerobic digestion with biogas, organic composting, fuel briquette production from non-biodegradable waste, and supplementary systems supporting overall operations.

The police are investigating the incident to prevent future tragedies.
