Digging trouble: Bangkok man arrested for shovelling blows at cops
A 38 year old man was arrested in Bangkok after allegedly assaulting two police officers with a shovel. The incident occurred on March 3, when the man, Kamla, was reportedly found engaging in indecent behaviour in public. Subsequently, he fled into a construction building, where the confrontation ensued.
At approximately 9.04pm, police received a report of a man undressing and engaging in inappropriate behaviour in front of the public at the end of Soi Sukhumvit 50, in Soi Sawasdee 4.
Officers from Phra Khanong district arrived at the scene and identified Kamla in the act. Despite police intervention, Kamla escaped into a nearby under-construction commercial building on Soi Sukhumvit 54.
Police Sergeant Sarayuth Silun and Police Sergeant Taksin Phanmee pursued Kamla to the fourth floor of the building. There, Kamla reportedly attempted to attack the officers with a 1.5-metre shovel.
Despite being ordered to stop, Kamla resisted and allegedly struck Sgt. Sarayuth in the face and Sgt. Taksin in the back of the head with the shovel.
The officers managed to subdue Kamla until additional police units arrived to secure the arrest. Observations suggested Kamla was under the influence of drugs, prompting a request for a urine test. Kamla consented, and the test detected methamphetamine, a category 1 narcotic, reported KhaoSod.
The urine sample was further examined at Sirindhorn Hospital, confirming the presence of methamphetamine. Kamla was informed of the charges against him, including public indecency, resisting and assaulting officers on duty, and drug use. He was then transferred to Phra Khanong Police Station for legal proceedings.
