Bangkok influencer summoned over online gambling promotion

A Saimai district influencer is facing serious legal trouble after cyber police revealed they would issue a summons over allegations of promoting online gambling. The influencer, known for his social media presence, is now under investigation after presenting what police says is incriminating evidence.
The controversy unfolded yesterday, April 22, when Police Lieutenant General Trirong Phiwpharn, the commander of the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau, announced that cyber police would summon the influencer for questioning next week.
The investigation was sparked by evidence provided by well-known social media figure Kanthas Phongphaiboonwetch, aka Kan Jompalang, who claimed to have images showing the influencer wearing a shirt that resembled an online gambling advertisement.
The images, which have made waves on social media, allegedly suggest the influencer’s involvement in promoting gambling websites.
Police have been reviewing the evidence, and initial investigations seem to support the claim that the influencer may have been encouraging online gambling among their followers.

“Cyber crime has become a growing concern, and we are taking swift action to address these offences,” Pol. Lt. Gen. Trirong Phiwpharn said. “Promoting illegal online gambling is a serious crime, and we will not tolerate such behaviour.”
If found guilty, the influencer faces significant legal consequences. The penalties for promoting online gambling include a maximum of two years in prison and a fine of up to 2,000 baht.
Police are determined to send a strong message that online gambling promotion will not be allowed to flourish unchecked in Thailand’s digital space, reported KhaoSod.
While the influencer has yet to respond to the allegations, the case has sparked considerable debate across social media, with many questioning the responsibility of online personalities in the digital age.
As the investigation continues, the influencer’s future remains uncertain, with all eyes on the upcoming questioning scheduled for next week.
