Fatal crash in Khon Kaen: Sedan hits truck, driver dies in fire

A tragic accident occurred on the Mittraphap Road in Khon Kaen’s Ban Haet district when a red sedan crashed into the back of a 10-wheel truck, catching fire and resulting in the driver’s death. The incident took place at 1am today, April 23, near Baan Nong Ngong in Baan Haet subdistrict.

Passersby and the truck’s passengers attempted to extinguish the flames with fire extinguishers to rescue the trapped sedan driver but their efforts were unsuccessful. Firefighters later arrived and put out the fire, but the driver, identified as 36 year old Nattapong, was found deceased in the driver’s seat.

Approximately 50 metres from the crash site, a white Isuzu 10-wheel truck was parked. Net, a 36 year old passenger of the truck, recounted that he was accompanying the truck to deliver goods in Baan Fang district.

After completing the delivery, they were on their way back to Nakhon Ratchasima province when they heard a loud noise resembling a tyre burst from the rear of the truck.

Initially thinking it was a flat tyre, they stopped to inspect, only to discover that the sedan had crashed into them before veering off the road and catching fire.

Good Samaritans, along with Net, tried to save the sedan driver but were unable to do so before alerting firefighters.

Unfortunately, the driver succumbed to the flames before help arrived. It is suspected that the driver may have dozed off, leading to the collision, reported KhaoSod.

The incident took place around 7pm on January 12 in the parking lot behind Thammasat University’s Examination Centre in Rangsit, Pathum Thani province.
