Australian man arrested in Thailand over armed robbery charges

Wanted Aussie fails to evade cops, detained by immigration at Suvarnabhumi Airport

Thai immigration officers apprehended an Australian man linked to an armed robbery at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, according to official sources. The Aussie was detained on May 3 after arriving from Bali on Thai Airways flight TG432.

He was intercepted while attempting to travel to Phuket on a connecting flight. The Immigration Bureau reported that biometric checks flagged him as banned from entering Thailand and revealed an active arrest warrant from the Phuket Provincial Court.

The warrant, dated May 2, 2025, alleges “robbery with or using a firearm” and “using a vehicle to commit an offence.”

Upon receiving the alert, officers initially attempted to contact the lead investigator but were unsuccessful. Coordination was then made with Pol. Lt. Col. Chaiwat Chansuwan from Chalong Police Station in Phuket confirmed the warrant’s validity.

The Crime Suppression Division of the Immigration Bureau Division 2 executed the arrest, and the suspect has been surrendered to the appropriate authorities for further legal action, reported the Phuket News.

In a similar armed robbery case last year, police in Pattaya arrested four Thai teenagers for the assault and robbery of an 80 year old Belgian man on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2024. A Thai woman alerted police to the injured man at a village in the Banglamung district.

The victim sustained a severe head wound, and 7,000 baht in cash was stolen. Security camera footage revealed four suspects on two motorcycles arriving at the scene, attacking the man, and fleeing with the stolen money.

A separate incident in Phuket on April 4 saw a 40 year old Scottish tourist attacking a teenage boy and vandalising a motorcycle. CCTV footage showed the tourist trying to damage a parked motorcycle, then punching the 51 year old store owner who confronted him and throwing bottles.

The tourist then allegedly struck a young boy, threw him off a motorcycle, and pushed the boy’s mother and two sisters.
