Weekend sees more heavy rain across Thailand in seasonal deluge
Thunderstorms and downpours continue amidst rainy season
Thailand’s Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning for 57 provinces to prepare for heavy rainfall over the weekend. The northeastern and northern regions, as well as Bangkok and surrounding areas, are expected to experience significant rainfall, covering 60-80% of these areas.
In Bangkok and its vicinity, thunderstorms are anticipated across 60% of the area with some places experiencing heavy rain. The minimum temperature is predicted to range from 26-28°C, while the highest may reach 32-34°C. The northern region may see thunderstorms affecting 70% of the area, with some provinces such as Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Sukhothai, Uttaradit, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun experiencing very heavy rain. Temperatures are expected to range between 23-26°C at the lowest and 28-34°C at the highest.
In the northeast, thunderstorms are expected to affect 80% of the area, with significant rainfall in provinces like Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, and Sisaket. Minimum temperatures are projected at 22-25°C, with maximum temperatures of 29-33°C.
The central region will see thunderstorms in 60% of the area and heavy rain in some provinces including Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Lopburi, Saraburi, and Kanchanaburi. Minimum temperatures are expected to be 24-26°C, with highs of 33-36°C. The eastern region will have thunderstorms across 60% of the area, with heavy rain in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chachoengsao, Sa Kaeo, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat. The minimum temperature will be 24-27°C, with a maximum of 31-34°C. Sea conditions will see waves about 1 metre high, increasing to over 2 metres during thunderstorms.
The southern region (East Coast) will experience thunderstorms across 40% of the area, mainly affecting Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. Temperatures will range between 23-25°C at the lowest and 32-35°C at the highest. Sea conditions will have waves around 1 metre high, rising above 2 metres during thunderstorms.
On the West Coast, thunderstorms are expected in 40% of the area, with Ranong, Phang Nga, and Satun seeing the most activity. Minimum temperatures will be 24-26°C, with maximum temperatures of 32-35°C. Sea waves north of Phuket will reach between 1 and 2 metres, increasing to above 2 metres in thunderstorm areas, while south of Krabi, waves are expected to be around 1 metre, rising above 2 metres during storms, reported KhaoSod.
