The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a weather warning for today advising residents across 24 provinces to stay alert for heavy rainfall, flash floods, and forest runoff. Coastal areas may experience sea waves exceeding 3 metres due to weather conditions.

The TMD’s 24-hour forecast indicates that the easterly and southeasterly winds bringing moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are weakening over upper Thailand. Meanwhile, a westerly wind wave is moving through the north, upper northeast, and northern Laos.

This pattern is expected to result in decreased rainfall in these areas, although some rain is still anticipated.

Despite the weakening winds, a moderate to strong high-pressure system or cold air mass continues to cover the northeast and the South China Sea, resulting in cooler morning temperatures in the north and northeast regions. Residents in these areas are advised to take care of their health amid changing weather conditions, and farmers are encouraged to prepare for potential agricultural impacts.

In the south, the northeast monsoon and easterly winds covering the Gulf of Thailand, the southern region, and the Andaman Sea remain strong.

This is leading to heavy rainfall in some parts of the east coast of the southern region. Residents are advised to exercise caution due to potential heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which could cause flash floods and runoff, especially in foothill areas near waterways and low-lying regions.

The lower Gulf of Thailand may experience strong winds with waves between 2 and 3 metres, increasing to over 3 metres in stormy areas. The upper Gulf and offshore Andaman Sea may see waves up to 2 metres, reaching over 2 metres during thunderstorms.

Mariners are advised to navigate with caution and avoid sailing in stormy areas, while small boats in the lower Gulf should refrain from venturing out to sea.

Dust and smog accumulation in upper Thailand remain at low to moderate levels due to medium-strength winds and scattered rainfall.

The forecast from 6am today, February 25, to 6am tomorrow predicts cool morning weather in the north, with 30% of the area experiencing rain, mainly in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Tak, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun. Temperatures will range from 16°C to 34°C, with colder conditions at mountain tops.

The northeast will see similar conditions with rain expected in 30% of the area, particularly in Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Chaiyaphum, and Khon Kaen, with temperatures ranging from 16°C to 34°C.

The central region will have slight rain in some areas, with temperatures rising by 1 to 2°C.

The east will experience minor rainfall, with temperatures slightly increasing.

While the southern region (east coast) will see thunderstorms covering 60% of the area, including Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Yala, and Narathiwat.

The west coast of the south will have thunderstorms over 40% of the area, mainly in Ranong, Phang Nga, Krabi, and Trang, reported KhaoSod.

Bangkok and surrounding areas will have mostly cloudy skies with a slight rise in temperatures ranging from 23°C to 35°C.
