Heavy rain warning across 46 Thai provinces, including Bangkok

Weather alert triggers preparations for potential flash floods and landslides

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) today sounded the alarm with a dire weather warning. An impending deluge is set to drench 46 provinces, including Bangkok – with a staggering 70% of the area bracing for a serious soaking.

Residents are urged to batten down the hatches and prepare for potential havoc, including dangerous flash floods. Stay safe and keep your eyes on the skies.

A medium-high pressure system from China is affecting the upper regions of the country, bringing southeasterly and easterly winds carrying moisture from the Gulf of Thailand and the South China Sea. This is causing thunderstorms and heavy rain in some areas.

The southern regions are also expected to experience heavy rainfall, with a risk of flash floods and landslides, particularly in hilly and low-lying areas.

The Andaman Sea, South Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand are experiencing moderate southwesterly winds, leading to waves of 1 to 2 metres, with higher waves in stormy areas. Mariners in these regions should proceed cautiously and avoid sailing in stormy weather.

In terms of air quality, the accumulation of dust and haze in the upper regions of Thailand is currently low to medium, showing a stable or decreasing trend due to the widespread rain.
