Thunderstorms forecast: Brace yourself for a wet and wild day
Heavy rainfall is expected across nearly all regions of Thailand today, with the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issuing warnings for 60 provinces. Northern, northeastern, eastern, central, and southern areas, including Bangkok and its vicinity, are advised to be cautious of potential heavy rain and flash floods.
The TMD forecasts that over the next 24 hours, a relatively strong monsoon trough will extend across the lower northern, upper central, and northeastern regions, moving towards a low-pressure area over Hainan Island, China.
Concurrently, a moderate southwest monsoon will cover the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, although it is starting to weaken. These conditions will result in isolated heavy rainfall in the northern, northeastern, central, and southern regions, as well as in Bangkok and its surrounding areas.
Residents throughout Thailand are urged to be vigilant for heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which could lead to flash floods and sudden water flows, particularly in areas near hillsides, waterways, and low-lying regions.
The Andaman Sea, southern Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand will experience weak wind waves, with waves reaching heights of approximately 1 metre and over 2 metres in areas with thunderstorms. Mariners in these areas should navigate cautiously and avoid sailing in stormy conditions.
