Teenager dies in Chachoengsao motorcycle crash with pickup truck
A tragic accident involving six teenagers riding motorcycles ended in the death of 15 year old boy and left two others seriously injured. The crash occurred when their motorcycles collided with a pickup truck waiting to make a U-turn.
The incident took place last night around 9pm on Suwinthawong Road, near the Klong Chao Bridge heading into Chachoengsao City. The police and rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene to investigate and provide assistance.
The accident happened in front of the CPF distribution centre in Sala Daeng, Bang Nam Priao district, where an Isuzu D-Max pickup truck with number plate 1 ฒย 7207 from Bangkok was parked, waiting to make a turn. The right side of the truck displayed evident collision damage, with a shattered headlight and a torn bumper. The driver, 31 year old Surasak, was present and cooperative, awaiting to provide his statement to the police.
Approximately 7 metres away from the truck, Thitikorn’s body was discovered, still clad in his school’s physical education uniform from a well-known institution in Nong Chok. His injuries were severe, with facial wounds and bleeding from both the mouth and nose.
Nearby lay two other injured individuals, also wearing the same school uniform. They had been thrown into a roadside ditch and were critically injured. The rescue team from Chachoengsao promptly transported them to Phutthasothon Hospital for urgent medical care. A black PCX motorcycle with the registration number 8 ขญ 7123 from Bangkok was found over 10 metres from the accident site.
Surasak, the pickup driver, explained that he had stopped his vehicle while attempting a U-turn upon noticing two motorcycles speeding towards him. Thitikorn, one of the motorcyclists, was engaged in a conversation with his friends, riding alongside him.
Motorcycle crash
Despite warnings from his friends about the truck ahead, Thitikorn was unable to avoid the collision. He tried to swerve but it was too late, resulting in a crash with the front of the pickup truck, causing the riders to be flung off their motorcycle.
A friend of the deceased, who was on another motorcycle, recounted their journey from Bangkok to Chachoengsao to visit friends. The group consisted of six people on two motorcycles, conversing throughout the journey.
As they reached the accident site, Thitikorn accelerated in the rightmost lane followed closely by his friend. While talking, Thitikorn failed to notice the stationary pickup truck ahead. Despite their attempts to alert him by pointing and shouting, it was too late. Thitikorn collided with the pickup, causing all three riders to be hurled through the air, reported KhaoSod.
The police have taken Surasak for further questioning at Bang Nam Priao Police Station to proceed with the legal investigation. Meanwhile, Thitikorn’s body has been entrusted to the Chachoengsao rescue team to be held at Phutthasothon Hospital, awaiting his family to claim it for funeral arrangements.
