At the scene, police found the body of Somjai, a 48 year old local motorcycle taxi driver, lying next to his Yamaha motorcycle. The licence plate of the motorcycle was 1 กก 1408 Chon Buri.

The deceased had sustained a fatal head injury, indicative of being run over. Nearby, a gas cylinder was found rolling around, and approximately 5 metres away, an Isuzu pickup truck with the licence plate จท 2829 Chon Buri was parked, apparently involved in the accident.

As Somjai’s family arrived at the scene, their grief was palpable. They were visibly shaken and cried out in distress upon seeing his lifeless body.

Viraaya, the 35 year old driver of the pickup truck, was also at the scene, evidently distressed. She recounted her version of events, stating that she was driving from the Don Hua Lo subdistrict, intending to turn left towards Ban Bueng district after exiting the motorway.

She claimed she did not see Somjai’s motorcycle approaching and only realised something was amiss when she heard a noise and noticed her side mirror was bent. Viraaya expressed confusion over how the fatal accident occurred, insisting she did not see anything.

Initial investigations by police involved reviewing CCTV footage to determine the exact cause of the accident. They aimed to ascertain whether the pickup truck was solely responsible for running over Somjai’s head or if another vehicle might have been involved and subsequently fled the scene. The police planned to proceed with legal actions based on their findings, reported KhaoSod.

The body of Somjai was then transported to Chon Buri Hospital for further examination. Following the autopsy, his family would be allowed to take his body back for religious rites.
