Belgian cyclist killed in Chon Buri truck collision

An accident occurred yesterday when a pickup truck collided with a 68 year old Belgian cyclist in Sattahip district, Chon Buri. The Belgian, Jean Antoine Linda Hellemans, who was cycling for exercise, unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
The incident took place at 10.20am, yesterday, March 9, on Road 332, near the J-Kasemphol intersection, opposite a PTT gas station in Bang Sare, Sattahip.
The collision involved a black Chevrolet pickup truck with a cargo box, registered in Rayong, which reportedly veered off the road into a drainage ditch.
The driver, a 38 year old named Thiparpa Namsupho, was found in a dazed state and was rushed to a hospital for further treatment.
Yossawat Phuwaratlerdkun, known as Mayor Tai, the mayor of Kled Kaew subdistrict, witnessed the aftermath of the accident. While en route to the Sattahip market, he noticed the truck in the ditch and stopped to assist.

Upon discovering Hellemans in the roadside grass with serious injuries, he promptly contacted rescue services and the disaster prevention and mitigation team from Kled Kaew and Udomsak municipal offices. Hellemans was transported to Queen Sirikit Naval Hospital, where he later died.
Initial investigations suggest the truck driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to the collision with the cyclist before the truck ended up in the ditch. Phuwaratlerdkun expressed his condolences to the family of the Hellemans, reported KhaoSod.
Police documented the scene and will summon the pickup driver for questioning to ascertain the cause of the accident and proceed with legal action as necessary.
