Tragic shooting in Buriram: Wife critical, husband dead

A tragic incident unfolded in Buriram yesterday where a 46 year old street vendor named Somsak allegedly shot his 51 year old wife, Nahathai, a school director, before turning the gun on himself. Nahathai remains in critical condition at Buriram Hospital.
The incident took place around 9.30am, yesterday, February 19, in the Mueang district of Buriram province. Nahathai was reportedly driving their pickup truck after dropping off their grandchild at school when Somsak, who was seated beside her, allegedly shot her.
He then reportedly used the same gun to fatally shoot himself. It is believed that jealousy and stress from his cancer diagnosis contributed to the incident.
CCTV footage near the scene provided additional insights into the events leading up to the shooting.
At approximately 9.22am, the couple’s vehicle was seen travelling towards their home, around 500 metres away, with Nahathai driving and Somsak in the passenger seat.
Another angle of the CCTV footage captured the couple’s pickup truck turning into the alley where the incident occurred, although the footage did not have audio.

Witnesses present at the scene reported hearing the vehicle’s horn blaring continuously as it approached. At around 9.23am, the sound of the horn was audible in additional CCTV footage, followed by three gunshots.
The first two shots are believed to have been fired by Somsak at Nahathai, and the third shot was reportedly when he turned the gun on himself.
Following the gunshots, residents quickly contacted emergency services. By 9.44am, an ambulance had arrived to transport Nahathai, who was severely injured, to the hospital. Forensic officers later arrived at 11.24am to examine the scene and secure the area, reported KhaoSod.
Nahathai continues to receive treatment in a critical state, while arrangements are being made by Somsak’s relatives to conduct his funeral rites in Nakhon Si Thammarat.
