Police in Thailand successfully apprehended a woman involved in a Facebook job scam, enticing victims to pay fees for a non-existent soap-packing job. The 23 year old suspect was arrested yesterday, January 5, in Nakhon Ratchasima after being implicated in fraudulent activities under a warrant issued in October of the previous year.

The arrest was orchestrated by high-ranking officials, including Siam Boonsom, the Metropolitan Police Chief, along with a dedicated team from the Crime Suppression Division. Sasikarn, a resident of Saraburi province, faces charges of public fraud and computer-related deception.

She is accused of allowing others to use her bank account and phone number for criminal purposes, including a technology-related crime.

Victims reported the scam to the Khlong Luang Police Station, describing how they were initially enticed by a Facebook page offering jobs in soap packaging. The page required an upfront membership fee, followed by additional payments for equipment before potential job placement.

When victims expressed reluctance to pay, they were persuaded to transfer funds with the promise of a refund. However, once payments were made, the fraudulent page vanished, leaving victims without recourse, reported KhaoSod.

“I was asked to open a bank account by a not-so-close friend, without any compensation,” Sasikarn reportedly claimed during interrogation. Despite her assertions, she remains in custody at the Khlong Luang Police Station, where she will face legal proceedings.

In related news, a Thai woman was arrested at a prominent shopping mall in Phasi Charoen, Bangkok for allegedly defrauding over 30 people by promising them lucrative jobs in Australian vineyards. The job seekers were charged between 120,000 and 170,000 baht each but were never sent to Australia.

Police Major General Montri Teskan led the operation, ordering Police Colonel Wiwat Jitsophakul to apprehend 31 year old Pachareeya under an arrest warrant issued by the Criminal Court on May 20, 2015.

The charges include fraudulent or deceitful conduct by making false statements to obtain property and colluding to send people to work abroad without permission through deception.
