Suspect caught attempting theft of housing project gate in Chon Buri

Police in Phanat Nikhom district apprehended a suspect involved in the attempted theft of a housing project gate.

The 35 year old suspect, known as Nu, was caught after CCTV footage captured him and an accomplice trying to steal the gate by placing it on the back of a motorcycle.

The attempted theft occurred at the Ban Sued housing project, located in subdistrict Ban Sued, Mueang Phanat Nikhom, Chon Buri. Due to the size and weight of the gate, the suspects abandoned it and fled the scene.

Yesterday, April 1, Police Colonel Thammarat Akarachaiphong, together with Deputy Chief of Investigation Police Lieutenant Colonel Phattharathon Charoenphon, announced the arrest of Nu.

The suspect was detained in subdistrict Na Phra That, Phanat Nikhom district, Chon Buri, with the motorcycle used in the crime. He faces charges of nighttime theft using a vehicle.

Nu admitted to committing five thefts, primarily targeting religious sites. He confessed to stealing stainless steel ladders, brass taps, kitchenware, and even the metal door of a bell tower from temples.

He had previously been convicted of methamphetamine possession, serving eight months and 20 days in prison. Upon release, he became a temple novice but continued his involvement with drugs and resorted to thieving temple items to fund his addiction.

Most recently, on March 29, Nu attempted to steal a metal gate from the Ban Sued housing project but was unable to transport it, leaving it behind. He was subsequently arrested by the Phanat Nikhom investigation team.

Additional charges for methamphetamine use have been filed after a drug test revealed traces of the substance in his system. The suspect is being handed over to investigators for legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod.
