A significant drug bust occurred when law enforcement intercepted a vehicle carrying 10,000 methamphetamine tablets hidden in the fuel tank. The vehicle was stopped at a checkpoint in Kanchanaburi province yesterday, January 27. The drugs were reportedly being transported from Sangkhla Buri to a dealer in Kanchanaburi city.

General Atsadawut Punyarachun, commander of the 9th Infantry Division and head of the Surasi Military Taskforce, along with Athisan Intara, Kanchanaburi’s provincial governor, and Police Major General Pornchai Chalordej, Kanchanaburi’s provincial police commander, received intelligence from border security sources in Sangkhla Buri regarding a drug smuggling operation. The operation involved drugs being concealed in vehicle fuel tanks to evade detection at checkpoints along the 323 highway connecting Sangkhla Buri and Kanchanaburi.

In response, Colonel Panasak Priyphanich, commander of the Lat Ya Taskforce, coordinated with Deputy Commander Colonel Piyanet Patrasasawong, Acting Police Colonel Bancha Srirujimethakorn of Thong Pha Phum Police Station, and Border Patrol Police Company 135, alongside administrative forces, to intensify vehicle inspections at security checkpoints.

At 4pm, officers at one such checkpoint flagged down a suspicious white Honda Accord with the registration number กย 1093 Kanchanaburi. The car was driven by 32 year old Jay or Re Chalae. During questioning, Jay appeared nervous, prompting a vehicle search.

Officers discovered five bundles containing approximately 10,000 methamphetamine tablets concealed in the car’s fuel tank. Jay was subsequently arrested under the Narcotics Code B.E. 2564.

Following the arrest, Jay confessed to smuggling the drugs from the Phaya Tong Su district, utilising natural routes in the Sangkhla Buri area, specifically near Bo Yipun village. The intended delivery was to the Kaeng Sian subdistrict in Mueang Kanchanaburi district, reported KhaoSod.

Police proceeded with further questioning to uncover additional details about the smuggling routes and connections within the drug trafficking network. The suspect, along with the seized drugs, was transferred to the Thong Pha Phum Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
