Celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with The Peninsula Bangkok’s timeless mooncakes and exclusive limited-edition collector’s box

A delightful and elegant touch to your festive celebrations or a stunning decor piece for your home

If you’ve ever wondered what goes into making the perfect mooncake, let me share that it’s so much more than mixing flour and filling. I recently had the chance to step behind the scenes and mould a couple of The Peninsula Bangkok’s famous egg custard mooncakes, made from their in-hotel restaurant Mei Jiang, and I can promise you, it gave me a whole new respect for this centuries-old tradition.

From carefully folding the silky pastry dough to watching each golden mooncake emerge from the oven, every step was handled with remarkable care and patience. It’s an intricate process that combines time-honoured techniques with an artistry you can taste in every bite.

This Mid-Autumn Festival, The Peninsula Bangkok is inviting you to be part of this rich heritage. Whether you’re celebrating with family, friends, or planning to share an unforgettable gift, these mooncakes are a delicious way to mark the season.

The highlight of this year’s collection is the signature Egg Custard Mooncake—a delicately smooth custard wrapped in golden pastry. It’s a recipe that began in 1986 at The Peninsula Hong Kong’s Michelin-starred Spring Moon restaurant and has since become a beloved classic.

At the same time, included in the boxes or if you are feeling adventurous, you’ll also find three new flavours crafted for this year:

The limited-edition Moonlit Masquerade Collector’s Box

For those who love collecting or gifting something truly special, there’s the Moonlit Masquerade Collector’s Box. This exclusive set is limited to just 150 numbered boxes and showcases enchanting artwork by Thai artist Pomme Chan.

Pomme Chan has collaborated with leading global brands that include Marc Jacob’s, Kiehl’s, Nike, Adidas, Sony, BMW, MTV, and The New York Times, among others. Furthermore, she was one of only fifteen artists chosen to design a poster for the 2015 Oscars.

Her design draws on moonlit folklore, featuring mythical creatures like the jade rabbit, the kitsune fox, and the moon toad, all gathering beneath a luminous full moon. Inside, you’ll find eight egg custard mooncakes and a fine porcelain tea set that echoes the box’s design, each piece hand-finished and presented with a certificate of authenticity.

Having tried my hand at making them and then having the opportunity to taste and share them around. I can assure you that they are definitely a delicious and festive treat. Each mooncake is a little symbol of care, heritage, and celebration and whether you’re gifting them to someone special or treating yourself, you’ll know you’re sharing something crafted with heart.

And if the mooncakes are gone, at least you are left with a wonderfully designed box or collection set.
