A large king cobra measuring 3.5 metres was found hiding in the kitchen of a 73 year old woman’s house, prompting her to call the Southern Venomous Snake Team for assistance.

The incident occurred yesterday, September 12, when Taweesak Boonsed, an official from the Southern Venomous Snake Team, received a distress call from Yingdee Suwannarat, who resides in Moo 8, Thap Chang subdistrict, Na Thawi district, Songkhla province.

Yingdee reported that a considerable king cobra had slithered into the kitchen of her house, located in a durian orchard.

Taweesak, along with rescue workers from the Sathon Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, equipped themselves with reptile-catching gear and rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered the king cobra concealed beside a water tank in the kitchen.

Employing their tools, the team expertly captured the snake in a short amount of time. The king cobra was measured and found to be 3.5 metres long. It was then safely placed into a sack, with plans to release it back into the wild to ensure the safety of the locals, said Taweesak.

“We often handle incidents involving various snakes, including king cobras, reticulated pythons, and monocled cobras. These snakes frequently inhabit fruit orchards and rubber plantations, and occasionally, they wander into people’s homes.”

In related news, villagers in Chai Nat province captured a massive python weighing over 50 kilogrammes after it was found hiding in a grass clump, having just fed. They believe it to be a sacred snake due to its enormous size.

Volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, Chai Nat branch, worked together to capture a giant python on May 28, at Wat Don Pho Si in Huai Krot Pattana sub-district, Sankhaburi district, Chai Nat. The snake was discovered by a monk who was cutting grass around the temple grounds. The python, with an exceptionally large body, appeared to have a swollen belly, indicating it had recently consumed a meal, reported KhaoSod.
