A bomb attack targeted a vehicle belonging to a volunteer defence force in Thung Yang Daeng district, Pattani province, injuring seven personnel. The incident occurred yesterday, April 23, at 3.16pm when the armoured pickup truck was crossing the Pakuh Bridge towards the Khomis market.
The perpetrators and their numbers remain unknown, as the explosive detonated along the highway. The injured individuals in the vehicle were identified as Nurman Yama, Maromulee Tomudi, Muhamaseng Ismai, Zuhai Pan Yuso, Masaburi Nawe, Atthaporn Toikaew, and Ahamah Wanee.
Initial assessments indicated that they all suffered from hearing impairment and chest tightness. The injured personnel have been transported to a medical facility for treatment, reported KhaoSod.
After receiving the report, police were immediately dispatched to the scene after receiving a report of the incident. Upon arrival, officers cordoned off the area to ensure public safety and prevent unauthorised access.
A large crater and fragments of the explosive device were found at the roadside. Investigators confirmed that the bomb was a homemade device weighing approximately 10 kilogrammes.
Initial investigations revealed that the seven Or Sor officers had been travelling together in an armoured vehicle. They had earlier collected survival kits from the Mueang District Hall in Pattani province, which were delivered to the Thung Yang Daeng Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO). While returning to their base at Thung Yang Daeng District Office, unknown assailants detonated the explosive device.
Luckily, the vehicle had passed the blast site by approximately 5 metres before the bomb exploded, sparing all officers from injury or shrapnel. Police have launched a full investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
