Two killed in Phuket motorbike and van collision near airport

A horrific accident on the main road to Phuket International Airport claimed the lives of two people early yesterday morning, April 2. A motorbike with a sidecar collided with a commercial passenger van, leaving both victims with fatal injuries.

The tragedy occurred around 9.30am on Route 4026, connecting Thepkrasattri Road to the airport. Emergency services rushed to the scene, where the van, a silver Toyota, stopped in the right-hand lane. The 45 year old driver, Somporn Sri Sawang, was at the site and cooperating with the police.

Thalang Police reported that the motorbike, a blue Honda Dream with a sidecar, was being ridden by 60 year old Narong Tiangnoi, with 68 year old Ma-ae Udomlak as a passenger.

Both were heading eastbound towards Thepkrasattri Road when the crash occurred. The impact was devastating, and both victims were quickly transported to Thalang Hospital, where they were pronounced dead due to their injuries.

Witnesses and investigators are helping police piece together the details surrounding the collision. Police have conducted drug and alcohol tests on the van driver, with results indicating no signs of intoxication.

Further investigation is underway as officials gather additional evidence and speak with witnesses to understand what caused this tragic incident.

As the investigation continues, local police urge drivers to exercise caution on busy roads, especially near high-traffic areas like Phuket International Airport, reported The Phuket News.

In similar news, a Russian man tragically lost his life after crashing his motorcycle into an electricity pole in Phuket early this morning. The fatal accident occurred at 12.45am on April 1 on Chaloem Phrakiat Rama 9 Road, also known as Bypass Road, in the Ratsada subdistrict.

Officers from Mueang Phuket Police Station responded to the scene, where they found the red and black Honda Forza motorcycle severely damaged and overturned.

Approximately 200 metres from the bike, the man’s body was discovered, horrifically severed in two. The upper part of his body was located beneath the damaged pole, with the lower half found 60 metres away.
