A remarkable gathering took place yesterday in the bustling epicentre of Phuket Town. The assembly, spearheaded by Tourist Police Commissioner Major General Saksira Phueakam, was a formidable display of dedication towards ensuring the safety of tourists during the impending high season of tourism.

The meet-up took place just ahead of the grand opening of the inaugural Chartered Walking Street market on Phang Nga Road.

Among those present were Tourist Police officers who diligently patrol on pushbikes, along with Tourist Police Volunteers and staff from the Tourist Assistance Center. These individuals are known for their relentless efforts in assisting tourists across a broad spectrum of issues.

Commissioner Major General Saksira stated that the assembly was held to underscore the readiness of the Tourist Police to ensure the safety of tourists across Phuket Island, whether it be in urban locales or at various tourist attractions. He reiterated their commitment to making Phuket a safe city for tourists, especially with the entertainment venues set to remain open until 4am.

In a bid to bolster security for tourists, Major General Saksira highlighted the importance of cooperation with network partners at tourist hotspots. This is part of the wider Strong Tourism Community project. He also noted the marked improvement in Phuket’s tourism economy, particularly with the surge in foreign tourists following the introduction of visa-free measures by the government, reported Phuket News.

Following the assembly, Maj. Gen. Saksira took a tour of the Chartered Walking Street market, taking the opportunity to interact with tourists. Under the banner, Safe & Smile and the Tourist Police’s enduring motto, Your First Friend, Major General Saksira and his fellow officers distributed bookmarks and keychains that promote the Tourist Police hotline 1155.

This event serves as a testament to the commitment of the Tourist Police and related agencies towards ensuring the safety and satisfaction of tourists visiting Phuket. As the high season approaches, it is clear that they are well-prepared to handle the influx of visitors while maintaining a safe, enjoyable environment.
