A dramatic New Year’s Eve incident unfolded in Patong, Phuket, when fireworks unexpectedly veered into a crowd of tourists. Footage shared on the Newshawk Phuket Facebook page captured the moment during the countdown celebration in Kathu district.

As the clock struck midnight, fireworks were being launched to usher in the new year, but suddenly, one fell dangerously close to where both Thai and foreign tourists were gathered. Panic ensued as the crowd leapt away from the threat, though fortunately, no severe injuries were reported.

The viral clip sparked a flurry of online commentary. Many netizens expressed their concerns, pointing out the dangers associated with such events. Comments included experiences like, “Last year, I was in Layan, and fireworks fell on a child, causing burns. It’s truly dangerous.”

Others echoed their fears, “That was terrifying!” and recounted their experiences, “At that moment, I was there, filming, and suddenly, a light came straight at us. Luckily, my partner shielded me. It was a close call, very risky.”

Commenting on the incident, one of the spectators, known only as Neung, detailed her firsthand experience. She recounted that she was with her family, waiting for the midnight fireworks display.

Her sister was capturing the event on video. As the clock approached midnight, the frequency of fireworks increased, marking the new year.

Neung narrated, “While filming, we heard the usual sounds of fireworks, but this time, it was different. With the second round, a red light shot towards us where my family and I were standing. My partner shielded me, and we ran, as shown in the clip. It was chaotic, but everything returned to normal afterwards.”
