Pattaya’s ‘Spider-Man’ burglar busted scaling estate wall

Elusive intruder linked to string of nighttime raids finally cornered by vigilant guards

A wall-scaling thief dubbed the “Spider-Man” has finally been caught after terrorising a luxury Thai housing estate in Pattaya in a series of daring break-ins that left residents shaken and over a million baht out of pocket.

Yesterday, May 9 at 5.30pm, security guards at Bristol Park, a gated community in Soi Thung Rahar, Huay Yai subdistrict, apprehended the slippery suspect, identified as 30 year old Nong, after he was caught red-handed trying to scale the estate’s towering 5-metre walls.

The drama unfolded in the early hours at 3am when the estate’s security alarm was triggered. CCTV footage showed a Thai male in a black tank top, short jeans, and a cap attempting to climb the estate’s high perimeter wall. After initially failing, he returned minutes later with a wooden plank, using it to boost himself over the barrier.

But the real surprise came after he landed inside — waiting for him were security guards who had anticipated his move. He was swiftly arrested without incident.

“When we saw him on CCTV, we knew it was the same guy,” said Anatti Wiwattanannon, head of security. “We positioned guards at likely entry points and caught him as soon as he made it over the wall.”

A black backpack found on the suspect contained bolt cutters, a screwdriver, and other burglary tools.

One of the residents, 39 year old Supachai Boonsuk, confirmed he had been hit by the same thief twice before.

“He took gold-framed amulets, a TV, and cash. I lost over a million baht. I filed police reports, but he kept coming back. I’m relieved he’s finally been caught.”

The suspect, who is believed to have targeted multiple homes in the estate, was handed over to Huay Yai Police Station for further investigation. Police urge all affected residents to come forward and formally identify him to ensure a solid case is built, reported The Pattaya News.

The estate’s management has also issued a call for vigilance and assured residents that security measures will be further tightened following the arrest.
