Held at Meeting Room 131, Pattaya City Hall, the meeting was attended by Weerawat Yomjinda, Vice Chairperson of the Working Group, Phumipat Kamolnat, Secretary to the Mayor, Dr Siwat Boonkeat, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Pattaya City, along with heads of government agencies and relevant officials.

Mayor Poramet highlighted the environmental challenges faced by Pattaya, one of Thailand’s most popular tourist destinations.

“With millions of tourists visiting every year, Pattaya uses a tremendous amount of energy, leading to high levels of greenhouse gas emissions.”

To combat this, Pattaya City has already taken steps through the Pattaya Go Green project, promoting the use of electric vehicles (EVs) and partnering with the private sector on innovative environmental initiatives. Notably, solar panels have been installed on the roof of Pattaya City Hall, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and supporting clean energy.

“Pattaya City will collaborate with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand to install solar panels on the roofs of all city halls and school buildings. This initiative will promote the use of clean energy, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and create a learning environment that is friendly to nature.”

The city is also focused on transforming itself into a low-carbon tourism city, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the tourism sector.

The strategy includes promoting clean energy, developing environmentally friendly transportation systems, and encouraging the business sector to adopt carbon reduction practices.

“We want to use Pattaya’s popular events and festivals to inspire change. We are working with the Greenhouse Gas Management Organisation to set policy goals and action plans for carbon reduction.

“This includes encouraging hotels, restaurants, and tourism establishments to adopt solar energy, reduce plastic waste, and implement effective wastewater management systems.”
