A 46 year old resident, Tee, reported hearing noises of metal being hammered and walls being broken over the past two days. He observed one suspect shaking a metal gate and using a sledgehammer on the building’s wall. Convinced that these men were not workers, Tee contacted local police.

Upon arriving at the scene on Tuesday, January 7, officials found the two suspects in the middle of cutting and attempting to steal metal. Both men confessed to their actions and were charged with theft and trespassing before being taken to the police for further legal proceedings, reported The Pattaya News.

According to Ground News, in recent months in East Pattaya, two metal grates were stolen from a road drainage system at the exit of the Bo Win Government Housing Estate. Surveillance footage captured two men on a motorcycle lifting the grates and swiftly fleeing the scene.

In related news, police arrested a Thai man for stealing shoes, some valued as high as 50,000 baht, from multiple temples in Bangkok. The man reportedly committed the thefts not for resale but to satisfy personal urges linked to his mental illness.

The thief would choose a pair he liked and try them on before leaving with them on. Officers from Samran Rat Police Station investigated the incidents after receiving repeated complaints about shoe thefts from temples across Bangkok.

Security footage from one temple identified the thief as a 56 year old man who was previously arrested for a similar offence and was later released in 2022.
