Thai society has been gripped by the high-profile case of Uncle Phon, a local man from Mookdaharn province, who has been embroiled in a number of legal battles, the most notable being the mysterious disappearance and untimely death of a three year old girl, known as Nong Chompu in 2020.

Nong Chompu was reported missing from her home on May 11, 2020. Three days later, her lifeless body was discovered near a fire pit, about 3 kilometres from her home, adding a chilling twist to the case. This gruesome discovery sparked widespread shock, leading many to believe it was a murder case.

Uncle Phon, the uncle of Nong Chompu, soon emerged as a prime suspect due to his inconsistent statements and suspicious behaviour, including his absence from the child’s funeral. However, he has vehemently denied any involvement in the murder case, insisting he is 100% innocent.

In addition to this, Uncle Phon has also been embroiled in other legal troubles. He was charged with assault after a violent confrontation with a local reporter, which saw him serving two months in jail and a fine of 10,000 baht.

Another case involved illegal logging activities where Uncle Phon, along with two YouTubers, were filmed chopping down trees in a protected forest reserve.

This led to charges of illegal logging, with evidence being the video footage of Uncle Phon and the YouTubers cutting down four Krathin trees in the area where they were building a shrine.

Third Case

The third case against Uncle Phon involved the illegal possession of protected wood. The authorities found a piece of Makha wood, a protected species, at a shrine near Uncle Phon’s house. This resulted in a sentence of four months imprisonment and a fine of 6,666 baht.

The case that has drawn the most public attention and scrutiny is the murder of Nong Chompu. Several pieces of evidence, including strands of her hair found in Uncle Phon’s vehicle, led to his arrest on three major charges. However, Uncle Phon has denied all allegations, reported KhaoSod.

The final hearing for Nong Chompu’s case occurred on July 27 after proceedings began on June 30. The court has scheduled the verdict to be announced on Tuesday, October 31 at 10am. The case has captured the attention of the nation, as society eagerly waits for justice to be served.

This series of events has made Uncle Phon a notorious figure in Thai society, with his name being associated with numerous legal cases.
