Two students drown in boat accident near Phichit temple

Two 15 year old male students drowned while playing in a boat near a temple in Phichit province after it capsized unexpectedly. They called for help but it was too late to save them.

Deputy Inspector Pichai Nilsingh from Mueang Phichit Police Station was notified of the incident yesterday, September 16. The tragic event occurred in front of Klong Khu Temple in Village 6, Tha Luang subdistrict, Mueang district, Phichit province.

Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered that the victims were both 15 year old students in their third year of secondary school from a local institution in Tha Luang subdistrict, Tha Luang district, Phichit province. Relatives and friends of the deceased were present, anxiously awaiting the police.

Despite efforts to locate the bodies, the search was hindered by the lack of light in the area.

Witnesses reported that the two boys had initially informed their families that they were going to play football. Instead, they decided to take a boat out in front of Klong Khu Temple, where the water is approximately 6 meters deep, reported KhaoSod.

While paddling, their boat capsized. The boys shouted for help, and although nearby villagers rushed to assist, they were unable to reach the boys in time, resulting in the tragic drowning.

In related news, a 16 year old Thai boy drowned in an irrigation canal in the northern province of Chiang Mai on his birthday while fleeing a gang attack.

The family of the teenage victim, named Weeraluck, filed a missing person’s report at Mae Rim Police Station on August 27. Weeraluck’s friends revealed that he had fallen into the irrigation canal at Tung Hua Chang Intersection, prompting rescue divers to search the canal. However, they found no trace of him.

A 19 year old man named Suppaluck later spotted Weeraluck’s body floating in the canal on August 28. He was wearing a motorcycle helmet, a black jacket, long black jeans, and sneakers. No traces of physical assault were found on his body.
