Tragic fire claims life of Thai councillor and family
A tragic fire erupted yesterday, January 11, in a three-storey commercial building in Suphan Buri Municipality, resulting in the death of Phusit Rungronchaiporn, a 52 year old candidate for District 1 Provincial Councillor, along with his family members.
Phusit’s wife, Kanokwan, their 26 year old son Teerawat, and their 24 year old daughter Warasiri also perished in the incident. The exact cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the police.
Udom Prongfa, a mayoral candidate for the Suphan Buri Provincial Administrative Organisation, was present at the scene to offer condolences to Phusit’s father, Poonsak Rungronchaiporn, who was in a state of deep grief and shock.
Udom expressed his sorrow, recalling a dinner he had with Phusit the night before the tragic event. He described Phusit as a kind and humble individual, cherished by many for his service to the community, reported The Pattaya News.
Phusit, a former District 1 councillor, was well-regarded for his friendly nature and commitment to serving the public. He was preparing to stand in the upcoming elections, making the loss a significant blow to the political landscape of Suphan Buri. Local media have highlighted the magnitude of this tragedy.
In related news, a fire in Bangkok’s Klong Toey community ripped through and destroyed 22 rooms, affecting 33 residents in the community.
Emergency services worked hard to control the blaze and set up a temporary shelter. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
The incident occurred at 2.45am on January 9, when Police Lieutenant Santi Chansathien, an investigator at the Tha Ruea Police Station, received a report of a fire at Rom Klao Pattana Mai community near Klong Toey housing flats on Narong Road, Klong Toey district, Bangkok.
Following the report, Pol. Lt. Santi coordinated with the Klong Toey fire station, deploying five firetrucks and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation to the scene.
