Tragedy strikes famous dragon troupe pickup truck: Explosive tyre leaves 3 dead and 15 injured

The pickup truck of a renowned dragon troupe who were on their way to a Khon Kaen performance suffered a tyre blowout, resulting in a devastating accident.

The calamity occurred 70 kilometres before the troupe’s destination, turning Mittraphap Road into a scene of chaos. Police Colonel Peerachat, Superintendent’s Branch, Phon Police Station, and his team rushed to the area, responding to a report of an overturned pickup truck.

The pickup truck, bearing the registration number 1ป5406 from Bangkok, lay overturned in the middle of the road. The casualties were grim, with three lives lost: identified as 34 year old Thawatchai (surname withheld), 31 year old Khomkrit, and a 12 year old identified only as A. Meanwhile, 15 others suffered injuries.

Police Colonel Peerachat revealed that the pickup truck belonged to Phanthai Norasingh’s sons, the dragon troupe preparing for today’s show in Khon Kaen City. The modified pickup served as a mobile stage for equipment and actors, many of whom were family members.

Detailing the statistics, Pol. Col. Peerachat shared that 23 individuals had embarked on the journey from Bangkok, comprising 18 adults and five children. The accident unfolded when the left rear tyre exploded, causing the pickup truck to lose control and overturn. The result was three immediate fatalities and 15 others grappling with various degrees of injuries, reported KhaoSod.

Emergency responders rushed the injured to Phon Hospital and Khon Kaen Hospital. Among the casualties, six faced critical conditions, highlighting the severity of the accident.

In related news, a serious road accident resulted in a fiery crash and a fatality on Kamphaeng Phet 6 Road, heading towards the Lak Si intersection. The accident scene was on a two-lane road. Officers used barriers to divert traffic as it was a bypass around an electricity pole at the National Housing Authority.
