Labour of love: Udon Thani cop delivers baby on the go, again
A heroic traffic cop in Mueang Udon Thani district temporarily turned into a midwife to assist in the delivery of a baby in a pickup truck before leading the way to a hospital on his motorcycle, ensuring the safety of both mother and child. This marks the eighth successful delivery he has facilitated.
Yesterday, March 24, Police Lance Corporal Charern Chantharak of the Mueang Udon Thani Police Station was alerted to a woman in labour in a pickup truck parked at Ban Huai Market in Udon Thani municipality. Responding promptly, he arrived at the scene with an ambulance from Udon Thani Central Hospital.
Using his training, he conducted an emergency delivery, safely delivering a baby girl. He then ensured the infant’s airway was clear, using a bulb syringe to suction amniotic fluid and stimulating the newborn to cry before wrapping her in a cloth for warmth.
Upon the arrival of the hospital emergency team, Charern handed the newborn over to the medical staff. He then led the ambulance to the hospital on his motorcycle, ensuring safe passage.
This incident marks the eighth newborn Charern has helped deliver, adding to his reputation for commendable service. The community lauded his actions, with residents applauding his dedication, underscoring the heartwarming aspect of police duty.
Charern expressed gratitude to his supervisors and colleagues for their support in equipping him with a motorcycle outfitted with emergency and delivery tools. This equipment enables him to assist the public in various emergencies effectively, reported KhaoSod.
