High-ranking police accused of drug use, theft, and gambling

A Thai woman accused her police officer ex-boyfriend in Samut Prakan province near Bangkok of using a drug and stealing 500,000 baht from her to fund his gambling habit.
The 38 year old woman, Fah, sought help from lawyer Nathatpong Boonkird after her complaint to the Royal Thai Police (RTP) failed to progress. Fah insisted she had evidence of her ex-boyfriend’s wrongdoing, yet the case remained stagnant.
Fah revealed to the lawyer and the media that she met her ex-boyfriend in January 2022. At the time, he was a police inspector before being promoted to police lieutenant colonel and deputy superintendent of a police station in Samut Prakan province.
Fah, who worked as a hotel receptionist, said she frequently saw the officer as he was a regular customer at her workplace. They started talking more after he volunteered to pay a traffic fine on her behalf.
She explained that, in the early days of their relationship, her ex-boyfriend was a good police officer, which led her to allow him to move into her home. However, by the end of 2022, he had changed. He frequently borrowed her mobile phone to play games and also began borrowing money from her.

The officer promised to repay her at the end of the month but never did. Later, a debt collection letter arrived at her home, making Fah realise that her ex-boyfriend was addicted to online gambling.

He had borrowed her phone to play gambling games and used her money to fund his gambling account. Fah urged him to stop but he ignored her.
In January 2023, Fah discovered drug paraphernalia in her room and later witnessed her ex-boyfriend using crystal meth in her home. Unable to continue the relationship, she broke up with him in December of that year.

After the breakup, Fah was shocked to find that all of her 100,000 baht savings had disappeared. She discovered that her ex had transferred money to a gambling site account and had also used her name to secure a 20,000 baht loan.
The cash she had kept at home was also missing, bringing her total losses to over 500,000 baht.
Fah reported the matter to his superiors and submitted videos showing him using crystal meth, drinking beer, and gambling while on duty.
She claimed that she later received a letter from the RTP stating that her ex-boyfriend had used a gambling website as part of his work and that the money he had taken from her was used for medical treatment.
Fah rejected this explanation and continued to fight for justice, pushing for the case to be prosecuted. However, the process has been extremely slow.

The lawyer criticised the prolonged investigation, arguing that the officer’s high rank should have made an investigation into such serious allegations an urgent matter.
He stated that the police officer must first undergo a drug test. If drugs were found in his system, he should be removed from his position and sent for rehabilitation immediately.
Neither the officer nor the RTP has stated the accusations made by Fah.
