Thunderbolt sets Isaan home ablaze in terrifying storm (video)

A ferocious thunderstorm sent shockwaves through Na Chueak district, Maha Sarakham province, last night after a bolt of lightning struck a house and sparked a raging fire that gutted the entire property.

At 7.10pm yesterday, April 28, Police Lieutenant Somwang Prangprakhon, Deputy Inspector at Por Phan Police Station, received an urgent call about a house fire in Baan Por Phan, Village 11, Por Phan subdistrict.

He swiftly alerted his superiors and rushed to the scene alongside firefighters from the Por Phan Subdistrict Administrative Organisation.

Upon arrival, emergency services were met with a dramatic scene: a single-storey elevated wooden house engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing into the stormy sky.

Crews battled the blaze, quickly deploying water hoses to bring the fire under control. Despite their efforts, the house was destroyed.

Fortunately, the property was vacant, and no injuries were reported.

Investigators quickly linked the devastating fire to the violent thunderstorm raging through the area.

“We believe a lightning strike directly hit the house, igniting the blaze that led to the destruction of the structure,” stated an official at the scene.

The house, made mostly of timber, offered little resistance once the fire took hold.

“The structure burned very quickly due to the materials,” said one emergency worker. “Had anyone been inside, it could have been a different story.”

Officials confirmed that they will arrange for forensic experts to carry out a thorough examination of the scene. Further investigations are underway to officially determine the cause and ensure no other factors contributed to the blaze, reported KhaoSod.

Residents are reminded to take precautions during severe weather events, particularly during thunderstorms, to avoid similar tragedies.

While the loss of property is a devastating blow, the absence of casualties has been hailed as a small mercy in an otherwise alarming incident.

In similar news, a man was killed by lightning while collecting kaffir lime leaves for cooking in a paddy field in Amnat Charoen province. The incident, which occurred on April 22, was witnessed by his father. The body of the 44 year old victim was later taken for religious ceremonies.
