Teen injured while filming dangerous stunt on Thai train (video)
A young passenger, engaged in dangerous content creation, sustained a head injury after striking a pole while hanging from a train’s steps. The incident, which occurred on August 5, sparked serious safety concerns.
The passenger, a 19 year old male, was filming content by hanging onto the train’s steps and leaning out of the carriage, resulting in his head colliding forcefully with a pole. This led to him falling onto the platform at Phatthalung station. The incident took place at 3.15pm on August 5, as the local train number 452 was departing from Phatthalung station en route from Sungai Kolok to Nakhon Si Thammarat.
Ekarach Sriarayaphong, head of the Governor’s Office at the State Railway of Thailand, confirmed the details of the incident. He stated that despite the passenger’s reckless actions, which led to the head injury, the train’s low speed at the time likely mitigated the severity of his injuries.
The passenger was immediately taken to Phatthalung Hospital for a medical evaluation. Initial reports from the hospital indicated that he suffered minor finger injuries and head pain. A subsequent brain X-ray revealed swelling and a bump on his head but no internal damage. The doctors have since allowed him to return home, Ekarach said.
“Although the passenger’s injuries were not severe, the act of hanging off the train and leaning out is extremely dangerous and reckless.
“Such behaviour could easily result in severe injury, permanent disability, or even death. We strongly urge all passengers to refrain from such actions.”
In response to the incident, the State Railway of Thailand has instructed train staff to increase the frequency of safety checks and to provide safety advice to passengers. If any passenger is found engaging in risky behaviour, the staff will issue immediate warnings. Should the passengers fail to comply, they will be asked to disembark from the train promptly, reported KhaoSod.
