A taxi driver found himself at a loss for words after encountering a woman who tricked him into providing a free ride. The incident, which occurred when the driver picked her up from Bangmod Hospital and dropped her off at Tha Kham Market in Bangkok, left him frustrated and out of pocket.

A taxi driver shared a video online yesterday, August 27, venting his frustration after a woman refused to pay her fare. Upon reaching the destination, she revealed that she had no money, showing only a handful of coins meant for a cheaper transportation option.

The driver expressed his dismay to the woman, questioning why she would take advantage of someone trying to earn a living. He lamented the loss of time and income caused by her actions.

The video was shared by a member of the Taxi Drivers of Thailand group, who added a caption suggesting that riding for free might be a habit for her. The post detailed how the driver picked her up from Bangmod Hospital and drove her to Tha Kham Market, only to be told she had no money to pay the fare.

The video captures the driver expressing his frustration:

“People are trying to make a living and you’re taking away their opportunities. Why didn’t you just take a cheaper form of transport if you only had coins?”

The woman simply responded, “I don’t know, I’m sorry,” before exiting the taxi.

This incident has sparked significant discussion online, with many expressing sympathy for the taxi driver. The video has garnered numerous comments from people who empathise with his plight and criticise the woman’s actions.

In the video, the driver further elaborates on his frustration.

“I’ve lost valuable time and income. If you only had enough for a songthaew, why did you flag down a taxi?”

The online community has rallied behind the driver, with many sharing their own experiences of similar situations, reported KhaoSod.

The overwhelming consensus is one of support for the driver and condemnation of the woman’s behaviour. However, there is a certain irony to the situation given the shoe is generally on the other foot.

Only three days ago a heated encounter unfolded in the Ekkamai area of Bangkok when a taxi driver charged a passenger an exorbitant fare of 400 baht for a 10-minute ride without using the meter. The incident, captured on TikTok sparked a public outcry.

What’s good for the goose is certainly good for the gander, as the saying goes.
