A dozen vehicles were damaged and a motorcyclist was left injured in Samut Prakan when they encountered a pothole next to a temporary cover on Srinakarin Road in the Mueang district last night.

At least 10 cars experienced tyre and wheel damage and a motorcyclist was injured after falling into the hole.

Police received the report at around 10pm. The hole appeared on a Bangkok-bound lane used by vehicles descending from a flyover above Theparak Road in Tambon Samrong Nuea.

The subsidence measured approximately one metre wide, 2 metres long, and 15 centimetres deep.

Authorities revealed that a cracked concrete slab on the road surface had subsided next to a manhole, which provided access to a water main currently being installed along Srinakarin Road.

A 32 year old motorist, identified only as J, mentioned that he did not see the hole but felt his car wheel drop into it, causing a front tyre to burst. After parking his car, he noticed several other vehicles with similar damages.

Another victim of the road, 34 year old Thanakrit Saengchompoo explained that his steering wheel shook violently as his car hit the bottom of the hole. Stating that heavy traffic had obscured his view, preventing him from avoiding the damaged section.

A 50 year old engineer, Praphon stated that the damaged road was in the vicinity of a water main installation, leading him to believe that the foundation had subsided beneath the concrete surface. Rainwater seeping through the cracked surface had likely exacerbated the damage.

Efforts are reportedly underway to repair the affected section of the road and ensure the safety of motorists in the area, reported Bangkok Post.

In separate news, a Thai woman crashed her pickup into another on the fourth floor of a hospital parking building in Bangkok, sending the vehicle flying off the roof and onto the road below. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
