Seasonal downpour to drench Thailand, flooding expected

Heavy rain will affect most Thai provinces, including most parts of Bangkok

Weather conditions across Thailand are expected to deteriorate, with increased rainfall predicted for 73 provinces. Heavy to very heavy rain may lead to flash floods, forest runoff, and landslides. Residents are advised to avoid flood-prone areas, especially in Bangkok, where 70% of the area is at risk as of today.

Thailand is forecast to experience significant rainfall in the north, northeast, central, east, and southern western regions. Residents are urged to be cautious of the potential hazards posed by heavy and persistent rain, which can result in flash floods, landslides, and forest runoff. Areas near mountain slopes, waterways, and low-lying regions should be avoided, particularly during thunderstorms or in areas with recurrent flooding.

Farmers are advised to enhance drainage systems on their farms to protect agricultural products and livestock. The increased rainfall is attributed to a monsoon trough over northern Thailand and a strengthened southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

In the Andaman Sea, waves are expected to strengthen, with heights of about 2 metres in the upper part and 1 to 2 metres in the lower part. In areas with thunderstorms, waves may exceed 2 metres. Mariners in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea should exercise caution and avoid sailing in stormy areas. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea are advised to remain ashore.
