Rescuers navigated a motorised flat-bottomed boat through strong currents to save two middle-aged men trapped in a pigsty in a flooded field. Rising waters from a rapidly flowing stream left the men stranded and unable to escape.

At 2.30pm yesterday, August 28, Katha Leelayut, leader of the Wang Nuea Rescue Association in Lampang province, and his team set out to bring the men to safety. Armed with life jackets, they manoeuvred the boat through the powerful currents from the Mae Yen stream and several other streams that had overflowed, inundating nearby fields and corn plantations.

The incident occurred in the middle of a field in Ban Thung Fang, Moo 5, Wang Sai Kham subdistrict, Wang Nuea district, Lampang province. The pigsty where the men were trapped was completely surrounded by water, making any escape by foot impossible.

Katha and his team braved the challenging conditions, steering the boat through the swift currents until they reached the stranded men. Once the rescuers arrived, they provided life jackets to the men and escorted them back to safety. A subsequent health check confirmed that both men were in good physical condition.

The men became trapped because the water rose quickly, driven by strong currents that made it impossible for them to leave. They managed to contact their relatives, who then alerted the rescue team, reported KhaoSod.

The flooding resulted from heavy rainfall and subsequent flash flooding in the upper areas of Wang Nuea district. The floodwaters caused widespread disruption before eventually flowing into the Wang River and then into the Kiew Kho Ma Dam.

In related news, heavy overnight rain in Phayao triggered flash floods in Phu Sang district in northern Thailand, causing significant damage across five sub-districts and forcing residents to flee their homes. The district chief has ordered an urgent assessment of the damage.
