PM Srettha’s mother honoured at royal cremation ceremony
The funeral of Chodchoi Thavisin, mother of Thailand Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, took place with significant figures from various sectors attending to pay their respects.
His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua appointed General Surayud Chulanont, President of the Privy Council, to represent him in the royal cremation ceremony held at Wat Thepsirintrawat yesterday, August 6 at 5pm.
Notable attendees at the ceremony included General Prayut Chan-o-cha, a member of the Privy Council and his wife, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Khunying Potjaman Damapong, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, leader of the Pheu Thai Party, and other members of the Cabinet. Their presence underscored the wide-reaching respect and admiration for Chodchoi.
Chodchoi Thavisin, née Jutharakul, was the second child of Shu Jutharakul and Milian Yib-In-Soi, born on October 1, 1928. She had four siblings: Chucherd Jakkapak, Chodchoi herself, Chot Jutharakul, Chaemchuen Buranasiri, and Chatch Jutharakul.
Her education and career were marked by significant achievements. She completed her secondary education at Mater Dei School and later pursued Interior Design at the Parson School of Design in New York, USA. After her studies, she returned to Thailand and worked at Sweet Home Furniture. Following this, she served at the Turkish Embassy in Thailand before retiring to focus on her family.
Chodchoi married Lieutenant Amnuay Thavisin (deceased) and had one son, Srettha. The Bangkok-born PM, a former managing director and co-founder of Sansiri, one of Thailand’s leading real estate companies, was raised by Chodchoi after the early death of his father when he was just three years old.
She took on the dual roles of both mother and father, guiding her son to achieve higher education in the United States and ultimately succeed in both business and politics. Srettha was appointed as the 30th Prime Minister of Thailand on August 22 last year.
Chodchoi passed away peacefully on July 21 at the age of 95. Her life and legacy were celebrated by those who attended her funeral, acknowledging her remarkable journey and the impact she had on those around her. Her dedication to her family and her resilience in the face of adversity left a lasting impression on many, reported KhaoSod.
