Tourism operators are optimistic that the new Jurassic franchise film, highlighting the natural attractions of southern Thailand, will draw tourists year-round. This has led to calls for a management plan to accommodate the expected visitor influx.

The trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth showcases destinations in Krabi and Trang, including Koh Kradan and Khao Phanom Bencha National Park. The film is set for release in July.

Kasmaporn Limpanapongthep, President of the Krabi Hotel Association, noted that Krabi ranks among the top three filming sites in Thailand, having hosted film crews from The Hangover Part II and F9 The Fast Saga.

Kasmaporn anticipates that the Jurassic film will increase hotel bookings by at least 10% from July, filling rooms during the low season. Krabi, with 10,000 to 20,000 accommodations, typically sees a 50 to 60% occupancy rate in this period.

The film is expected to attract both domestic and international tourists, including families and nature enthusiasts. It was filmed in lesser-known areas such as Ao Luek and Ban Bakan village, potentially drawing visitors to new destinations.

Given Krabi’s focus on green and sustainable tourism, it is essential for the government to promote and manage environmentally friendly travel. During the film’s production last year, hotels across the province saw increased bookings, with five-star hotels hosting actors and independent hotels serving as production offices.

Kasmaporn suggested that the film could be marketed alongside the new Jurassic World: The Experience attraction in Bangkok, due to open mid-year. An outdoor movie festival is planned for February 15 to 16 at Krabi Maritime Resort to inform locals about tourism and film industry opportunities.

Phithakphong Chaikhot, an advisor to the Trang Tourist Association, acknowledged it is too early to predict tourism revenue but the new film brings global attention to the province. With Trang having fewer hotels and a smaller capacity than Krabi, local operators must efficiently manage tourist journeys.

Some hotel operators are concerned about increased traffic affecting guests who visit Trang for its tranquillity. However, the provincial economy stands to benefit, particularly local tour companies and boat services offering tours of filming locations.

Provincial agencies are encouraged to improve transport and connectivity, expediting the expansion of Trang airport to increase flights from the current six daily domestic services. During the High Season, most visitors are arriving from the three southern border provinces and from Malaysia via Hat Yai, reported Bangkok Post.
