A local Thai woman encountered two suspicious vehicles and three dubious men near the scene where a suitcase containing a naked body was discovered in the eastern province of Rayong.

A local fisherman noticed an unpleasant smell coming from the suitcase while fishing in a canal near a shopping mall in Rayong province on Friday, February 7, and decided to contact Ban Chang Police Station officers to investigate.

Officers had to cut the suitcase open and found the naked body of a woman, estimated to be around 30 years old. Two dumbbells, each weighing around 5 kilogrammes, were used to weigh her down at the bottom of the canal.

The woman had shoulder-length hair, which was a mix of black and brown. She was approximately 150 to 155 centimetres in height. It was found that she had undergone nose and breast augmentation. There were no visible signs of physical assault, and she was believed to have been dead for at least 14 days before being discovered.

The family of a missing woman, 32 year old Wilawan Boonkuea, suspected that the body might be hers. Wilawan lost contact with her family on December 27 last year. She was about 158 centimetres tall, had golden brown hair, and had also undergone nose and breast augmentation.

Wilawan had tattoos on her neck and near her ribcage. However, police did not find any tattoos on the body in the suitcase. A further autopsy would be conducted to confirm whether the body was Wilawan’s or not.

Locals told police that they had seen the suitcase floating in the canal since January 29. Some also noticed the unpleasant smell but did not suspect that the bag contained a body.

SiamRath reported on February 9 that a local woman had contacted the media regarding three suspicious men. She claimed to have seen the three men at the scene where the suitcase was found at around 6pm on January 27.

One of the men arrived in a white SUV, while the other two came in a pickup truck. She had gone to the scene on her motorcycle after work to collect morning glory for her dinner when she encountered them. The men appeared shocked to see her but did not speak to her.

She continued picking vegetables and overheard their conversation…

“Can we start now?”

One of the men refused and insisted they wait until the sun had set. The woman said she was frightened and quickly left the scene. She did not tell anyone about the incident until she learned of the discovery of the suitcase.

CCTV footage from the scene and nearby areas captured the two suspicious vehicles mentioned by the woman. On January 27 at 5.35pm, a white Toyota Fortuner SUV arrived at the location, accompanied by a bronze pickup.

Seventeen minutes later, at 5.52pm, the SUV drove past the scene again, and it passed for a third time at 6.21pm. The SUV was not seen in the area again until 4.40pm on February 7, after the naked body was found.

Police have not yet disclosed further details of the case to the public, fearing that the suspects might be alerted and attempt to flee.
