The search for a missing fourth-year university student came to a grim end after his body was discovered floating in the Nan River in northern Thailand, four days after he vanished.

At 8am, today, March 4, police and rescue teams were alerted to a body found face down near a houseboat in Mueang Phitsanulok district, close to Wat Sawang Arom.

The dead student, dressed in a black T-shirt and jeans, was identified by family members as 22 year old Supakorn Siangsanoh, a student at Naresuan University who had fallen from the Naresuan Bridge.

According to reports, Supakorn had fallen into the river at 4am, on March 1, sparking an intensive four-day search by emergency services.

His body was located 8 kilometres from the incident site, and police transported him to Wat Jung Nang pier before moving him to Naresuan University’s hospital for an autopsy.

His grief-stricken mother, 49 year old Sumalee Thanyakam, had travelled from Nakhon Sawan province and had been waiting anxiously for news, staying in a local park for three nights as search efforts continued. The moment she learned of her son’s fate, she was overcome with sorrow.

His father, 64 year old Prasert Thanyakam, also confirmed his son’s identity.

“I want to thank the rescue team, government agencies, and the local community for their support in searching for my son.”

Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding Supakorn’s fall. His tragic death has left family, friends, and university peers in mourning, with many remembering him as a bright and promising young man whose life was cut short far too soon, reported KhaoSod.
