Today, the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and their contractors rushed to investigate a road collapse and house damage near a pit for an underground power line in Soi Kaew Electric, Samut Prakan province.

The MEA, who commissioned the construction project, expressed their regret and apologised to those affected by the incident.

The MEA explained the cause of the collapse before pledging to take full responsibility. They promised to compensate all locals affected by the project’s construction activities and to provide immediate assistance to those impacted in the community.

This included arranging temporary accommodation and essential household items for the residents during the repair and reconstruction of their homes. In addition, the MEA made efforts to establish a temporary traffic diversion route to restore safe road conditions as quickly as possible.

MEA’s investigation revealed that the incident occurred when underground sand flowed into the air vent (shaft), causing a 30-metre-long earth collapse near the entrance of the underground power tunnel at the Klong Dan high voltage station. However, the event did not affect the electricity system, reported KhaoSod.

Nonetheless, the MEA pledged to expedite the investigation into the cause and the details of the impact to prevent a similar incident from happening in the future.
