A man from Khon Kaen has broken his eating record three times by dining at a buffet restaurant for over 10 hours, thanks to the restaurant’s unlimited time promotion. He even managed this feat without having slept.

Social media in Khon Kaen buzzed with images from the Oshinei Khon Kaen Facebook page at 6pm yesterday, September 25. The post showed a customer who had set a new record for the longest time spent eating at the restaurant.

The post read, “Setting a new record, sitting long #unlimited time promotion. The customer started at 11.03am and as of now, it’s 7.19pm, making it 8 hours and 16 minutes. In about one hour, he’ll break his previous record of 9 hours and 11 minutes.”

The man in question, 29 year old Bank, first set the record at six hours on August 11. He was accompanied by four friends, three of whom left early. He broke his record on September 13 by sitting for 9 hours and 11 minutes. Counting till closing time, which is 10pm, he clocks in at 10 hours and 57 minutes, a record that would be hard to surpass as the restaurant is open for only 11 hours from 11am to 10pm. To break this record, a challenger would need to start right when the doors open and without any interruptions.

Bank sat down with the media at Oshinei Khon Kaen, located on Sri Marat Road near the Khon Kaen Provincial Police Station and Khon Kaen University. He recounted his experience while picking up a bento set from the restaurant. Bank shared that he has been a regular at the restaurant since it first opened. When he learned of the unlimited-time promotion, he decided to take on the challenge. Initially, he saw the restaurant’s social media posts and felt encouraged to break his record.

Highest record

Bank’s third attempt saw him dining for over 10 hours. On his latest visit, the young man didn’t set out to break a record but found himself hungry after watching a movie at 6am. With no food at home and no other dining options in mind, he headed to the buffet restaurant.

During this fourth attempt, Bank managed to eat for over nine hours, though it fell short of his previous record. He explained that he takes his time when eating, enjoying ice cream and drinks when feeling full before resuming his meal. He also takes breaks to stretch and use the restroom.

Bank keeps himself entertained with a tablet, reading news and browsing social media. Despite the viral attention, he views this as just another promotion and is surprised by the widespread sharing of his story. His favourite dishes at the restaurant include sashimi, especially salmon, and ice cream.

The restaurant staff revealed that most customers who dine for extended periods usually stay for a maximum of four hours. Typically, the restaurant limits dining time to two hours but currently, all Oshinei branches are running a birthday promotion in honour of Chef Boontham, the owner, allowing unlimited dining time for various promotions priced at 350, 500, 590, and 799 baht.

Bank has dined four times during this special promotion, breaking his previous record each time. His first record on August 11 was six hours. On August 20, he broke his record with 9 hours and 11 minutes. His third attempt saw him dining for 10 hours and 13 minutes, and his latest feat was 9 hours and 43 minutes, reported KhaoSod.
