Condor resumes direct flights from Frankfurt to Thailand
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) welcomed Condor flight DE2368 from Frankfurt, Germany, to Phuket International Airport yesterday, September 22, marking the resumption of direct flights by Condor after a pandemic-induced hiatus.
This significant event is expected to contribute to the recovery of Thailand’s tourism sector, with TAT predicting over 979,000 German tourists to visit Thailand this year, generating an estimated 65 billion baht in revenue.
The restart of Condor’s direct flights underscores a robust demand for long-haul travel to Thailand, providing a much-needed boost to the tourism industry. Condor will now operate two major routes: Frankfurt to Phuket, with two weekly flights starting yesterday, and Frankfurt to Bangkok, with four weekly flights commencing today. These flights will be serviced by Airbus A330neo aircraft, each accommodating 310 passengers.
Passengers arriving in Phuket were warmly received by TAT officials, along with representatives from both government and private sectors. The welcome included gifts and promotions under the Amazing Thailand brand, reinforcing Thailand’s reputation as a premier global tourist destination.
German tourists have emerged as the third-largest group from Europe visiting Thailand, with a noticeable increase in numbers post-pandemic. The TAT identifies German tourists as a high-potential market, particularly during Germany’s winter months (January to March and November to December). They are drawn to Thailand for its beach destinations, health and wellness experiences, and environmentally responsible tourism.
TAT reported that 60% of German tourists visiting Thailand are repeat visitors, with many being families and working professionals who prefer independent travel. This trend highlights the enduring appeal of Thailand’s diverse attractions and the effectiveness of targeted marketing strategies.
The collaboration between TAT and Condor signifies a pivotal step towards revitalising Thailand’s tourism, ensuring that the country remains a top choice for international travellers, reported Pattaya News.
In related news, Thailand is turning up the heat on its tourism campaign in Indonesia with an exciting new initiative. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is bringing its Amazing Thailand Road Show to Indonesia 2024 to three Indonesian cities (Medan, Jakarta, and Bali) in a bid to solidify its spot as the top holiday destination for Indonesian travellers.
