Nonthaburi upskirt suspect dies after dangerous mall plunge

Police probe online coercion claims linked to student’s final actions

The young man who leapt from a Nonthaburi shopping mall after being caught filming under a woman’s skirt has died from his injuries, police confirmed.

Police in Nonthaburi have confirmed that the 21 year old university student who jumped from the fourth floor of Central Westgate mall has died, following a desperate attempt to evade arrest yesterday evening, September 12.

The incident occurred around 7.40pm when a young woman spotted the man allegedly using an iPad to secretly film under her skirt. She immediately called for help, and security staff together with police moved in to detain him.

According to witnesses, the student panicked as evidence was being collected. He threw his bag down a stairwell before leaping over the railing. He landed on the ground floor, suffering severe head trauma and a fractured ankle.

The man was rushed to Kasemrad Rattanatibeth Hospital, where doctors initially described his condition as critical. He later succumbed to his injuries, police colonel Siriphop Anusiri, chief of Bang Yai police, confirmed today, September 13.

Witnesses described the moment of the fall as horrifying.

“People were screaming and crying. Many were in shock as he lay motionless on the floor,” one bystander said.

In a twist, the man’s mother later revealed to Channel 7 that he had called her shortly before the incident to say goodbye. During the call, he admitted to filming under female students’ skirts. She said he confessed that he had been pressured into the behaviour by a private online group, where members allegedly blackmailed him into providing images, Bangkok Post reports.

The revelation has raised questions about online exploitation and coercion, with police expected to investigate these claims further.

The tragedy follows earlier reports that the student had slipped into a coma after the fall.

Police said the investigation remains open, both into the upskirt filming allegations and the claims of blackmail. Officers are also reviewing CCTV footage from the mall as part of their evidence collection.
