Thai man arrested for selling upskirt videos, earning 50k monthly
A 20 year old Thai man arrested for selling upskirt videos online revealed that he could earn up to 40,000 and 50,000 baht a month, significantly higher than the minimum wage of around 12,000 baht.
Officers from the Investigation Division of the Metropolitan Police Bureau (IDMB) discovered secret groups on various social media platforms offering upskirt videos of students to members. The videos were believed to have been recorded at shopping malls and train stations, particularly in Bangkok.
Further investigation into these groups led police to raid a house in Soi Ramkhamhaeng 2 in the Bangkapi district of Bangkok, where they arrested the suspect, 20 year old Kittitouch, on Monday, September 23. A search of his mobile phone and tablet revealed numerous pornographic files.
Kittitouch admitted to the crime, confessing that he had bought pornographic videos from other groups to set up his groups on VK and Telegram applications. He then collected membership fees from the members.
Kittitouch revealed that he earned approximately 40,000 to 50,000 baht per month, and the substantial income motivated him to continue the illegal activity.
His actions have led to two charges including:
- Section 14(4) of the Computer Act: importing indecent information into the computer system which the public is likely to access. The penalty is imprisonment of up to five years and a fine of up to 100,000 baht.
- Section 287/1 of the Criminal Law: possession and distribution of child pornography. The penalty is imprisonment of up to seven years, a fine of up to 140,000 baht, or both.
The commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, Teeradej Thammasutee, issued a warning to the public, especially women who often wear skirts, to be aware of the risk of secret filming. He advised anyone who becomes aware of such activity to immediately leave the scene and call for help.
In a related report, another Thai man was arrested last year for multiple instances of upskirt filming. Officers discovered nearly 900 explicit videos in his possession, featuring 430 victims, including 260 young schoolgirls. The man had been committing these crimes for seven years before his arrest.
