Man meditates on Bangkok’s Democracy Monument, sparks emergency response

A man dressed in white robes drew the public’s attention when he climbed the Democracy Monument and meditated on one of its ledges. The incident, which occurred around 3.40pm yesterday, March 17, prompted police and rescue workers to respond to the scene.
The man, sitting in a meditative pose, caused confusion among passersby on Ratchadamnoen Road. Police and rescue teams, including volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation and the Thai Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Volunteers, were called to manage the situation and provide assistance.
Police identified the person as male and were engaged in negotiations to safely bring him down. The incident took place in the jurisdiction of Samran Rat Police Station.
The Thai Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Volunteers reported that their base, Boon Vipa, received the incident report at 3.39pm, reported KhaoSod.
The emergency response included volunteers from Boon Vipa and an ambulance from Taling Chan station, who were dispatched to assess and address the situation.

In similar news, a man, enraged after his car was wheel-clamped for illegal parking, threatened police with a machete, causing a disturbance on a Bangkok street on February 26.
The incident took place in Soi Yothee, Bangkok, when police clamped a vehicle parked during restricted hours. The event, which occurred around 3:20 pm, was captured on video and shared on the Facebook page “อยากดังเดี๋ยวจัดให้ รีเทริน์ part 6.”
Upon seeing his car clamped, the owner became furious and confronted the police. He retrieved a machete from his car’s trunk and threatened the officers, as shown in the video, reported KhaoSod.
The footage showed the man waving the machete while walking down the street, aggressively pointing and shouting at the police, creating panic among the locals who witnessed the scene.
A 59 year old man named Chayakrit became angry when his car was clamped for parking just two minutes beyond the allowed time. He was running late because he was hurrying to pick up his brother from Ramathibodi Hospital.
