A man, upset after his car was wheel-clamped for parking in a no-parking zone, threatened police with a machete, causing a commotion on a Bangkok street yesterday, February 26.

The confrontation occurred in Soi Yothee, Bangkok, after police wheel-clamped a vehicle parked during restricted hours. The encounter was captured in a video posted on the Facebook page อยากดังเดี๋ยวจัดให้ รีเทริน์ part 6, documenting the event which transpired at around 3.20pm.

Upon discovering his car clamped, the vehicle’s owner became furious and engaged in an altercation with the police. He retrieved a machete from his car’s trunk and threatened the officers, as shown in the video, reported KhaoSod.

The footage depicted the man brandishing the machete while walking down the street, aggressively pointing and yelling at the police officers. This scene unfolded amidst the panic and surprise of the locals who witnessed the incident.

A 59 year old man, identified as Chayakrit, became upset when his car was clamped for being parked beyond the allowed time by just two minutes. He was late due to rushing to pick up his brother from Ramathibodi Hospital. Though he admitted to his wrongdoing, his frustration led to a confrontation with the police.

Witnesses, including motorcycle taxi rider, stated that Chayakrit initially tried to pay the fine at the scene, but when officers insisted on processing it at the station, he grew angrier. He then retrieved a machete from his car and threatened the police, even attempting to chase after them. A police patrol team soon arrived and managed to de-escalate the situation.

After calming down, Chayakrit agreed to put down the weapon and was taken into custody. A search of his Nissan Teana revealed no illegal substances, and his son was found sitting in the car, reported Thairath.

The man was fined 900 baht (US$25) for illegal parking, carrying a weapon, and causing a disturbance. He was later released after acknowledging the charges and completing the required legal procedures.
