Man arrested for false claim of wife trapped in building collapse

Police apprehended a 50 year old man at Mo Chit Bus Terminal after he fabricated a story about his supposed pregnant wife being trapped under the collapsed State Audit Office building.
Somnitch Duangnet had previously claimed that his 23 year old wife, Korwipha Sonbubpha, who was four months pregnant and working as a clerk on the fourth floor, was unreachable due to being trapped beneath the debris. However, it was later discovered that this story was false.
Upon further investigation, reporters contacted Korwipha, who confirmed she was the actual owner of the identity card used in Somnitch’s claims. She explained that the card had been used during her employment at a shopping mall in the Rama 9 area back in 2019, and she had returned it to the mall upon leaving her job.
Korwipha expressed shock and surprise upon learning that her identity card had ended up with Somnitch. She was perplexed about how he obtained it.
Her family was also alarmed by the news, initially fearing for her life. Consequently, Korwipha decided to visit Bang Sue Police Station to file a complaint against Somnitch, asserting that she had no prior knowledge of or acquaintance with him.
Yesterday, March 31, officers from Bang Sue Police Station, along with the investigative team of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, detained Somnitch at Mo Chit Bus Terminal. He was then taken to Bang Sue Police Station for questioning.
Police Major General Noppasin Poolsawat, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, personally oversaw the questioning of Somnitch, reported KhaoSod.
