Bangkok’s Pink Line monorail to offer free test rides in June

The Pink Line monorail branch to Muang Thong Thani will offer free rides during its test run in June before starting full services in July.
Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit announced that the 3-kilometre extension from Si Rat Station to Mueang Thong Thani will begin test operations in late June. During this period, rides will be free, leading up to the official opening on July 19, when fares will be between 15 and 22 baht.
The Bangkok Rapid Transit Authority owns the Pink Line, which is operated by Northern Bangkok Monorail Co, in collaboration with the BTS Skytrain operator.
The Mueang Thong Thani Station will link the main line to various concerts, exhibitions, and sports venues in the locality, reported Bangkok Post.

The Pink Line monorail covers 34.5 kilometers and comprises 30 stations, connecting the Nonthaburi Civic Centre in Pak Kret district, Nonthaburi to Min Buri district in eastern Bangkok.
The line runs along Highway 304, covering Chaeng Wattana and Ram Inthra roads. Construction of the Pink Line began in late 2017, with trial passenger service commencing in November 2023.
Full commercial operations started on December 31, 2023. The monorail significantly reduces travel time between Khae Rai and Min Buri by over 50%, making the journey less than an hour.
A notable feature of the Pink Line is its integration with other mass transit systems, enhancing connectivity in the Bangkok Metropolitan Region.
Additionally, a 2.8-kilometer spur line from Si Rat station to Muang Thong Thani is under construction, with free test rides scheduled to begin in June 2025 and full service expected to commence a month later.
In similar news, Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat proposed a monorail system to ease the island’s worsening traffic congestion. Speaking at a tourism policy press conference on November 29 last year, he discussed the plan with private sector groups. The monorail is seen as a viable alternative to the stalled light rail project and will be presented to Transport Minister Suriya.
